Miel Lei Apostol
PRODUCER
Dance B.A., Visual & Performing Arts Education and Theater Minors
Originally from the Philippines, Miel is proud to be an immigrant as well as a transfer student from Moorpark Community College. She is versed with multiple styles of dance and is always open to learning all types of movement. Through Thrive Dance Center, Miel grew up with a background in ballet, studio hip hop, jazz, and musical theater, but her passion resides in hip hop, contemporary, modern/post modern, and improvisation/freestyle movement! They experiment and combine psychological concepts and other mediums of art within their choreographic, teaching, and movement practices. Miel is looking forward to exploring her life outside of academia and is honored to be a producer for this year’s WACsmash!

Lindsay Backer
PRODUCER
Dance B.A., Psychobiology B.S.
Born and raised in San Clemente, CA, Lindsay grew up doing both competition and concert dance. Her training mostly consists of ballet, contemporary, and jazz, but WACD has been a great opportunity for Lindsay to expand her movement vocabulary. Lindsay is currently a part of Icarus Contemporary and Expressive Movement Initiative. Aside from dance, she is also pre-vet, which means Lindsay spends her time working with cute puppies, kittens, and even elephant seals!

Leo Flores
PRODUCER
Dance B.A., History B.A.
Leonardo Flores aka “Poppin Leo” is a Los Angeles native born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. He is currently entering his fourth year of studies at UCLA, double majoring in History and Dance. He is a teaching artist with VS:P•E•C, working with students ranging from elementary, middle, and high school, as well as working with incarcerated youth in Los Angeles. He has been a member of Versa Style Next Generation for five years and currently functions as the Co-Captain. Leo has served as a program counselor and now Co-Head Counselor for the UCLA Summer Hip Hop Dance Intensive 2021. In addition, Leo will also be a producer of WACSMASH, a student run and produced dance theatre production at UCLA. Leo has choreographed and participated in numerous dance pieces, always stressing the importance of Hip Hop inclusion, quality, and foundation.

Dewa Ayu Larassanti
PRODUCER
WAC B.A., Entrepreneurship and Ethnomusicology Minors
Growing up both in the Bay Area and in Bali, Ayu experiences the challenges and the beauty of two worlds. Ayu specializes in Balinese dance and music, but loves to study different forms, including Javanese music and dance, Thai music and dance, choral music, musical theater, jazz dance, and hip hop. During high school, Ayu was a competitive dancer and won awards at regional competitions in Bali. Ayu trains with world-renowned composers and choreographers and teaches young dancers and musicians at Cudamani, in Pengosekan, Bali. With Cudamani, she has toured internationally, teaching and performing in Japan, Greece, and the United States. Currently, Ayu is the music director for On That Note A Cappella at UCLA and is a work-study student for the WACD Department. Fun fact: Ayu is a voice actor for Kena: Bridge of Spirits and has a bunny!

Bernice Wang
PRODUCER
Dance B.A., Psychology B.A.
Though born in Taiwan, Bernice is an American choreographer trained in ballet and modern, who loves studying other dance forms too. Always up for new experiences, she’s tried hip-hop, West African dance, Chinese traditional dance, and more. Some other passions of hers include gaming, writing, film and art. Bernice is a jack of all trades (master of some) and at one point, was even about to major in architecture! Come chat with her about the intersection between art and psychology or the existential void of existing in a deteriorating world.
